DESIGN TIME

![]() Finding The Design: It was hard picking out my fist project because there were so many options. To get ideas for my project I looked on Pinterest. I am changing and adding to some of the design, but I hope to come up with my own designs later on in the project. I wanted to do something to get in the holiday sprit. After lots of research I have finally decided on a holiday sign. This sign has fall on one side and winter on the other. On the fall side it will say It's FALL Ya'll with other fall symbols such as leafs, acorns, burlap string and sunflowers. On the winter side it will say JOY with other winter symbols such as snowflakes, bows and snowmen. Preparations: The materials that I need are: paint, paint brushes, wood, string/rope/twine, glitter, fake leafs, To prepare for this project I will sketch a rough draft for both sides of the sign and gather the supplies. Steps: 1. Gather materials 2.Lay out drop cloth and get orange paint 3. Paint one side orange (I did 2 coats) 4. Before the paint dries sprinkle the glitter on 5. After that side is dry flip the piece of wood over and paint it white (this may take more coats) 6. Before paint dries sprinkle glitter on 7. After the white paint dries paint the word JOY on it 8. Now you can decorate however you would like 9. Flip the wood back over to the orange side and paint the word FALL on it 10. Now you can decorate however you would like Challenges I Might Face: One thing that is different from this projects then the others I have previously done is that it involves wood. As I was looking for ideas for my projects I realized all of them had wood in them. I have no previous experience with using wood, I can barley use a hammer. Realizing this helped me decide who my mentor is going to be. I am having a mentor to help guide and teach me through all of my projects. The Final Product: The final product isn't as good as I was hoping for. My letters were sloppy so to fix this problem I outlined each letter in glitter glue. After I did this I realized it was a mistake. The glitter glue made it look more like a child's craft. To fix the problem I rubbed the glitter glue over each of the letters. Then I used twine to outline the letters. The twine made a big difference and it matched the theme well. I think that the decorations I added to the sign helped the overall design. My favorite thing is the fall flower. To make this flower I took brown twine and made the center. Then I used green twine and made the petals. If I had to do this project again I would try to find stencils for the lettering and add more coats of the white paint. week 1-2

I like how you listed the materials and your process of doing this; it made it easier for me to follow what you were doing. It will be interesting to see what you´ll do next.
